Bio

 

Ms. Carol Cocuzzi is Vice President of Design Consulting Services and is responsible for the management and growth of this department. In her capacity, Ms. Cocuzzi coordinates design consulting services including performing design reviews for new construction and alteration projects, regulatory and product review and research, on-site accessibility evaluations, and providing recommendations to business clients on ways to make cost-effective and practical modifications to their properties to assist them in their efforts to comply with the ADA.  Ms. Cocuzzi supervises and has trained a number of other staff and independent contractors to perform services for ADA, Inc.

 

Ms. Cocuzzi has an in-depth working knowledge of Titles I, II & III of the ADA, as well as the Pennsylvania Universal Accessibility Standards, The Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended in 1978, Federal Fair Housing Act and Title 24 – California Disabled Accessibility Guidelines.  Her technical skills are of the highest caliber, as are her skills and experience as a trainer and facilitator. As a wheelchair user for most of her life, she brings a strong personal and extremely creative approach to the barrier removal process. 

 

Ms. Cocuzzi specializes in design, alteration and new construction consultations and serves as the company's liaison with our higher education clients. Her involvement with Carnegie Mellon University and Community College of Allegheny County spans the areas of Title II issues for students under both Title II & III, reasonable accommodations for employees and faculty under Title I, as well as participating in both institutions' ADA Committees. 

 

Ms. Cocuzzi also provides ADA Title I reasonable accommodation/worksite evaluation services to clients and has performed such services as part of several litigation cases that involved discrimination against employees with disabilities. 

 

Ms. Cocuzzi is an Allied Member of the American Institute of Architects, and was a co-presenter to the American Institute of Architects/Pittsburgh Chapter on the proposed changes to the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG).

 

Ms. Cocuzzi is the creator of ADA, Inc.’s educational training/seminars including but not limited to “ADA Update – Then and Now”, “New ADAAG” and “Structure Reflects Values” and presents them to design and engineering professionals throughout the area.

 

Additionally, Ms. Cocuzzi participates in the company's customer service sensitivity training programs, fire and life safety awareness programs and educational seminars to the design and corporate communities.  She performs public speaking on behalf of the company related to the ADA and other accessibility-related issues. 

 

Ms. Cocuzzi has been a presenter to the American Institute of Architects, American Society of Interior Designers, Construction Specialists International, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and Lorman Education Services. Since 1996, she has been a guest lecturer for LaRoche College’s Department of Interior Design, and has served as a member of the “Design Jury” to help educate students on the concept of universal design.
