Work Experience 1994 - Present Accessibility
Development Associates, Inc. , Pittsburgh, PA Vice-President,
Technical Assistance Services Primary
duties involve providing assistance for compliance with the Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA), and other disability-related legislation. Assistance includes preparation of detailed
audits of business and government buildings to determine areas of compliance
and non-compliance with legislative requirements. Audits include a list of recommendations to
correct areas of non-compliance.
Process includes follow-up meetings as needed to clarify any areas of
uncertainty. All of these tasks require interaction with customers who may or
may not want to be helpful. Many of
the assignments have deadlines, either so that my piece can be incorporated
into a larger project or because of court-mandated requirements for
compliance. I also assist businesses,
municipalities and State agencies in the information gathering processes
required for compliance with disability-related legislation, including the
preparation of transition plans for compliance with Title II of the ADA. This includes the development of a
comprehensive program access compliance system for the Pennsylvania Lottery
and the Department of Public Welfare state-funded HealthChoices Program. Both programs were developed to assist the
state agencies in the settlement of lawsuits.
I assisted in the preparation of the comprehensive ADA compliance plan
for an internationally recognized museum, as part of the resolution of a
lawsuit on ADA compliance. I provided
technical expertise and assigned ADA and disability- related priorities to
the various Title III aspects of the process.
Duties also include Disability Awareness training for businesses,
which include experiential or lecture style sessions. I actively participate in the marketing of
the company’s services. 1992 - 1994 Three Rivers Center for Independent
Living Business
Accessibility Disability Awareness Department Prior
to the spin-off of ADA, Inc., our company was a division of the Center’s
service organization. Responsibilities
included the evaluation of public and privately owned buildings to determine
what was needed for compliance with Title II and Title III of the Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of
1973. Evaluation process required
meeting with building owners/managers, inspection of the premises and
development of a comprehensive report detailing the specific areas of
compliance and non-compliance, relating them to the relevant section of the
ADA or Section 504. Required making detailed recommendations for
measures to bring facilities into compliance and explanations of areas where
modifications were not required.
