Bio Ms. Joan Weiss Stein serves as the
President and CEO of the company. Ms
Stein holds a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and holds the credentials
of CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive). She brings twelve years of non-profit
management, fundraising, public relations, marketing and management skills
and experience to the position. Prior
to her twelve years of management experience, Ms. Stein worked in various
social work and clinical positions with individuals with mental illness and
mental retardation, as well as with children.
She brings a strong combination of clinical, administrative and
business skills to her position. In
1992, Ms. Stein created ADA, Inc. and has served as its founding President
and CEO. Ms. Stein has developed and performed the
company’s Disability Awareness/Etiquette Training Programs, as well as its
human resource, policy development, event and convention planning and other
related consulting services. Ms.
Stein’s combined experience and training has enabled her to develop and
customize training programs for a wide variety of organizations;
incorporating ADA concepts into the culture of each organization. In 1995, Ms. Stein provided technical
assistance to The State Wide Small Business Development Center, through
Duquesne University’s Small Business Development Center that enabled them to
secure one of 16 national grants funded by The Department of Justice in order
to provide training seminars for businesses to assist them in understanding
and complying with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ms. Stein is sought out as a public speaker
on the subject of the Americans with Disabilities Act. She has presented programs to more than 120
professional, civic and service organizations about the Americans with Disabilities
Act, including the Pennsylvania Housing & Finance Agency, Manpower
Services, Inc., the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD),
the U.S. Bureau of Mines. She has been a keynote speaker or workshop
presenter for the National Association of Leadership Programs, the
International Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus and the
International Facility Managers Association. Ms Stein presented a workshop on how
lotteries and their retailers can increase their numbers base, while
complying with the ADA at the 1999 North American State and Provincial
Lotteries (NASPL) conference held in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ms. Stein was recently featured as the
keynote speaker at the Institute of Store Planners (ISP), New York City
chapter. In March 2001, Ms. Stein was
a featured workshop presenter at the SPECS 2001 National Retail Conference in
Nashville, TN. She has been invited to
be a speaker/presenter at the National Facility Management Conference in
Baltimore, MD. In 2002. Ms. Stein has been a feature writer for
Building Operating Management Magazine and Maintenance Solutions Magazine,
where she has dealt with the many facets of ADA compliance in large
commercial real estate and property management organizations.
