Effective Planning Saves Lives An
emergency is “...any unplanned event that can cause significant injuries, or
even death, to employees, customers or the public; or that can shut down your
business, disrupt operations, cause physical or environmental damage, or
threaten the facility’s financial standing or public image.” |

“Buddy Systems” are used in many high-rise
commercial buildings to safely and expeditiously assist persons with
disabilities to safety in the event of an emergency. It is accomplished by establishing a
personal relationship between the employee requiring assistance and one or
more of his/her co-workers, and is an essential component in your business’
life safety plan. Accessibility Development Associates, Inc. (ADA,
Inc.) has developed an Emergency Evacuation “Buddy Program™” to assist building owners and managers, as well as
employers to develop an effective emergency evacuation program. The customization of ADA, Inc.’s “Buddy
Program™” includes several key components: · Review your organizations existing
emergency evacuation materials and procedures. ADA, Inc. concentrates on effectively
communicating and identifying issues of particular relevance to employees
with disabilities. ADA, Inc. will
provide recommendations to enhance the understanding and effectiveness of
materials as they relate to emergency preparedness for people with
disabilities. · On-site review of the facility to
determine what the building can support in terms of emergency communication,
emergency means of egress, and evacuation. · Research of the most current and effective products and
equipment available for the safe rescue and evacuation of persons with all
mobility, sensory, and hidden disabilities from commercial and small office
buildings. · Develop a Customized Buddy ProgramTM and train your employees in its use. |
